Semblance of Sense

There is not much sense left in the world anymore. The reds drew at home to city over the weekend...feels like a loss. I don't know why i feel so insanely glum about this. Perhaps its because for the first time we were actually in the title race and we actually started to believe only to be let down like this. Still the positives we can take from this season are numerous, we have more options down the wing, our squad is beginning to gel and find some semblance of consistency, we have only one loss and a very unlucky one at that, and we're 2nd and in the title race in February. Still thats little consolation for this feeling so heres to hoping that we win the European Cup and take it from there. Still if we win at Old Trafford.......we might still be within a shout....
The thought of rolling over and lame ducking it while United match us on league title simply sickens me.

In other news the world is officially crap.

Slumdog wins best picture, although my vote would have been cast for Frost/Nixon.
Kate Winslet wins best actress. (About Time!)
And Mickey Rourke should've beaten Sean Penn in what seemed a very behind the scenes political decision.
Meh trust Hollywood honchos to screw up a remarkable comeback story.

Monday.

To quote Jim Davis
I hate Mondays.

On a tangent, does anyone know where I can get a flatcap in Bangkok? I rather fancy myself in one, ahh it won't be quelled my fake Bohemian facade.

Recommended Books of the last couple of years.

I'm bored at work, might as well recommend some books I've found amazing. A lot of them are already well known so if you want some more obscure titles feel free to comment.

The Road - Cormac McCarthy
The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay - Michael Chabon
The Quiet American* - Graham Greene (BRILLIANT BOOK and its well old but I just read it)
Anything (the word not an actual title) by Juno Diaz thats been published recently.

Speaking of The Quiet American, the movie which came out in 2002 (?) was absolutely top drawer. I have never been Brendan Fraser's biggest fan but he does acquit himself remarkably well in this movie. The biggest compliment I can pay him is that he had to share an awful lot of screentime with Michael Caine and he does not look out of place.

Thaksin and the tree of life

I hate using biblical references. I hate them in Shakespeare, I hate them in Elliot, I even hate them in Yeats (which is a bit like saying I hate the Beatles but I love all their songs). But in true accordance with who I am, I am going to use one.

When Adam and Eve took that fruit from the tree of knowledge and emerged from ignorance, they suffered a series of unfortunate events (Ahem) being cast out of paradise and ultimately suffering in ways they had never known. You know what; I don’t think it matters because if they had the chance they would probably do it again. The problem with the whole ignorance is bliss sayings is just that, IGNORANCE IS BLISS, but once you gain a tad bit of knowledge, a little enlightenment would you ever revert to the previous state of ignorant bliss if you could? I would like to think not.

How does this relate? It doesn’t but I thought a non sequitur might keep you on your toes. If you’re still reading I will finally get to my point. Thaksin. Love him, loathe him he’s bound to illicit strong opinions either way. But here’s where I come in, I am completely sat on the fence on this one. I dislike him as a man and as a leader. He is arrogant, brash and offhandedly offensive. He masterminded one of the worse civil rights abuses in Thailand recently first with his extra judicial drugs program and then his horrible campaign in the South. He probably has done more to harm and widen the gulf between Buddhists and Muslims in this country than anyone else before him. That being said, what Thailand will become, be it for better or worse will be due to him. His policy of empowering the poor in this country is visionary and amazing. Maybe it was BECAUSE he is a brash arrogant twat that he was able to achieve in a couple short years what no government has been able to since...well, ever.

Just because a man is fundamentally flawed does not mean he is limited to his flaws. Maybe it was inadvertent, maybe it was accidental, maybe Thaksin is a bumbling old fool who just happened to defecate and fertilise the right track of land. But the seed has been planted. Change is upon us. The old guard is scared and a storm is brewing. It might not happen today, nor tomorrow, but mark my word it is coming. When it does it will not be peaceful, the poor of this country have tasted from the tree of knowledge and they just aren’t going to slip back into that obscurity of ignorance.

The Good Doctor.

Blogger's Note: The good doctor will periodically contribute political pieces to this blog. Who he is? I cannot tell you like. He might be me, he might be someone else. What is certain is that you'll never know.

Oh I forgot.

I'm not ever using correct grammar or punctuation in my blogs. Sometimes I will. Othertimesiwontevenbothersoyoucanbuggeroffyousmellymong.

So I Gave In

So I gave in. Yep did it. Am here in the big bad world of blogging, lets hope people actually visit my blog for my two cents which is probably worth less than two cents. Welcome to my insane ramblings. Let's start with the state of the world shall we.

Most importantly.
Mancs won. Again. Sigh.
At the very least they might lose at Blackburn and then we'd creep up on them a tad bit if we can beat City (Not a given the way we're playing) Come on ya red men.

Barrack Obama finally got his stimulus package through both houses of congress. What I find absolutely hilarious about this is that the sticking point that came under so much scrutiny and debate was less than 15% of the total bill, while the rest of it was all agreed on. Why couldn't they push through the part that they agree on and then debate the bloody package. Oh wait sorry I forgot Politics is not logical, its a chance to watch grown(?) men be babies.

Top Gear is coming to Asia but not Thailand....double sigh.

The price of cocaine is set to fall in Europe apparently according to the beebs. Somewhere, some hospital in Switzerland is absolutely delighted as the money they are going to make transfusing more blood and organs to Keith Richards will keep their banks going in these hard financial times.

I read something interesting lately that might cause a few eyebrows to be raised back in blighty. Heres something for you lot to wrap your 'ead around. When people in America say "Only in America" they usually tend to mean great things like, Burger with bacon, mayo, sausage ham and eggs? Only in America. Flying cars? Only in America. Now when we think about it what does it mean to be "Only in Britain"....well when one uses that, it usually means things like endless rain, long queing waits, oh and Manchester..... you know crap things.

Oh and that Hadron Collider....what a colossal waste of money.

I think thats it for me first blog. In the words of Clooney impersonating a much greater man. Good Night and Good Luck
